EXPERIENCES & ACTIVITIES

Beyond the Ordinary -Into the Extraordinary

From the heights of cloud-wrapped mountains to the depths of its coral reefs, from the stillness of ancient temple courtyards to the energy of a beachside night celebration, our activities are gateways into Sri Lanka’s living soul.

Turtle Conservation Experiences

Best Places: Kosgoda, Rekawa, Tangalle

Difficulty Level:

Sri Lanka’s coastline is one of the world’s most important nesting grounds for five species of sea turtle, including the endangered leatherback, and our turtle conservation experiences offer travellers an opportunity to engage directly with protection efforts. We partner with responsible coastal hatcheries and community conservation programmes that rescue and incubate endangered eggs, monitor nesting beaches, and release hatchlings into the ocean under careful supervision. Educational sessions led by conservation professionals provide deep insights into the global threats facing sea turtles and the specific work underway on Sri Lanka’s shores. These experiences are available at dusk and dawn during nesting and hatching seasons, and combine the thrill of witnessing new life with a meaningful contribution to conservation.

Camping and Glamping in the Wild

Best Places: Knuckles, Yala, Ella, Horton Plains

Difficulty Level:

For those who want to sleep closer to the Sri Lankan wilderness, we offer carefully selected camping and glamping experiences across some of the island’s most spectacular natural settings. Glamping at tented camps near Yala National Park combines the immersive feel of sleeping under the stars with the comfort of proper beds, private bathrooms, and gourmet meals prepared by camp chefs, the wild outside the canvas, but luxury within. For the more adventurous, guided wilderness camping in the Knuckles Range or on remote east coast beaches offers a raw encounter with nature. All camping and glamping experiences are conducted with minimal impact, using established campsites and following leave-no-trace principles to respect the surrounding ecosystems.

Entertainment & Nightlife

Best Places: Colombo, Galle, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Negombo, Arugam Bay

Difficulty Level:

The southern coastal towns of Mirissa, Unawatuna, and Hikkaduwa come alive after sunset with beachside fires, live music, and an easy-going communal atmosphere that draws travellers from across the world. Colombo’s contemporary nightlife scene includes stylish rooftop bars, craft cocktail lounges, and creative dining concepts in beautifully restored colonial buildings. For those drawn to cultural performance, Kandyan dance shows, mask theatre demonstrations, and traditional drumming performances offer windows into Sri Lanka’s rich artistic heritage. Our team curates evening itineraries to match your taste, from the quietly sublime to the joyfully festive.

Hot Air Ballooning

Best Places: Dambulla, Sigiriya, Habarana

Difficulty Level:

Drifting above the Sri Lankan landscape at first light in a hot air balloon is one of the most serene, breathtaking ways to encounter the island from a perspective almost no one else ever achieves. Our balloon experiences launch from the Cultural Triangle region at dawn, rising above the treetops to reveal ancient rock fortresses, shimmering man-made lakes, jungle canopies, and the distant outlines of highland mountains in the morning haze. The silence and stillness of balloon flight over this landscape is magical, a floating meditation above one of Asia’s most historically rich landscapes. Flights last approximately one hour and are followed by a traditional champagne celebration on landing. Available year-round, though the clearest conditions are typically between December and April.

Snorkelling & Scuba Diving

Best Places: Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Weligama, Passikuda

Difficulty Level:

The waters around Sri Lanka conceal an underwater world of beauty, vibrant coral gardens, dramatic shipwrecks, tropical reef fish in every colour of the spectrum, and gentle reef sharks cruising shallow passages. Pigeon Island off Nilaveli on the east coast is a protected marine sanctuary with exceptional snorkelling accessible to complete beginners, while the reefs off Hikkaduwa, Mirissa and Bar Reef at Kalpitiya reward more experienced snorkellers and divers with encounters that include sea turtles, rays, and moray eels. Our scuba diving excursions are led by certified PADI instructors who offer both introductory dives for first-timers and guided speciality dives for advanced certifications. The best diving conditions on the south-west coast run from November to April, and on the east coast from May to September.

Whale & Dolphin Watching Expeditions

Best Places: Mirissa, Trincomalee, Kalpitiya, Weligama

Difficulty Level:

Sri Lanka sits at the edge of some of the deepest ocean waters in the Indian Ocean, and the offshore grounds near Mirissa and Trincomalee are among the very finest places in the world to encounter blue whales. Our whale-watching expeditions depart with responsible, licensed operators who adhere to strict guidelines on approach distance and vessel behaviour, ensuring the safety and well-being of marine life and a profound experience. Sperm whales, Bryde’s whales, and multiple dolphin species, including spinner and bottlenose, are sighted alongside the great blues. The west and south coast season runs from November to April, and the east coast season from May to October, meaning year-round opportunities exist for those planning ahead.

Scenic Train Journeys & Slow Travel Routes

Best Places: Kandy to Ella (Nanu Oya), Haputale to Ella

Travelling by train through Sri Lanka’s highlands offers a different encounter with the landscape, windows open to cool mountain air, paddy fields and waterfalls blurring past, tea pickers visible in the emerald rows of plantation below, and the gentle rhythm of the train making space for reflection and wonder. We integrate scenic train travel into our round tour itineraries as a highlight rather than merely a means of transport, and our guides ensure you board with the knowledge to fully appreciate every kilometre.

Heritage & Archaeological Immersions

Best Places: Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Dambulla, Kandy, Galle Fort

Our expert local guides bring the stories of Anuradhapura’s sacred dagobas, Polonnaruwa’s royal gardens, Sigiriya’s sky palace, and Dambulla’s painted cave sanctuaries to vivid life -transforming ancient stones into human stories of ambition, devotion and ingenuity. Our heritage immersions are designed for travellers who want not just to see history, but to feel it.
